Crustacean and Plankton lAB

The Crustaceans and Plankton Lab (LCP), coordinated by Prof. Dra. Andrea Santarosa Freire, is located in the Department of Ecology and Zoology, at the Federal University of Santa Catarina. Using a multidisciplinary approach by integrating ecology, oceanography, taxonomy and genetics, we investigate spatiotemporal patterns of crustaceans and plankton communities/populations in the Brazilian coast and South Atlantic, including the oceanic islands.

In addition to research, the LCP supports practical activities of disciplines from the Biological Sciences, Oceanography and Aquaculture undergraduate courses. Our team is also engaged in science outreach with the aim of sharing and multiplying scientific and popular knowledge with the general public, outside the university's boundaries. Through events open to the public, social media and visits to schools, we enable the connection between science and society, generating interest in the oceans.
